Key Stage 3 (Years 7 - 8)

We have recently moved to condense Key Stage 3 to 2 years, with students taking Key Stage 3 tests in English, Mathematics and Science at the end of Year 8. In Key Stage 4 (Years 9 - 11) these students will move on to a range of courses depending on their interests and abilities, with most pursuing some AS Level study during these years as a preparation for the Sixth Form.

In Key Stage 3 all pupils study a common core of subjects:
Art French Music
Biology Food Technology Mathematics
Chemistry Geography Physical Education
Design Technology German Physics
Drama History Religious Education
English Language
and Literature
Information Technology Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Careers Education

Key Stage 4 (currently Years 10 and 11)

This will change significantly following our condensed Key Stage 3.

Our philosophy at Key Stage 4 is that pupils should be encouraged to continue with a broad and balanced curriculum, while also allowing them to begin to specialise in the subjects at which they particularly excel. All pupils study a common core of subjects, with some alternatives within the core, and then take 2 further subjects chosen from a list of options.

In recent years we have begun to work closely with Ermysted's Grammar School at Sixth Form level. Joint provision of post 16 courses with the boys' grammar school, which is located within easy walking distance, allows our students access to an even broader range of subjects than would otherwise be the case.

Each year we take into our Sixth Form a significant number of students who have taken their GCSEs at other local schools;
