Local lass and Skipton Girls’ High School pupil, Eve Brocksom (16) has a huge passion for rugby and rugby photography. At the age of just 14, Eve became involved in the England RFU Young Rugby Ambassadors Programme – a national programme for 14-24 year olds to get involved in community based grassroots rugby.

“My Dad is a huge rugby fan and has been connected to Skipton RFC for the last 15 years, so upon registering with the Young Rugby Ambassadors Programme it was natural for me to get involved with the club. I picked up the family camera and headed down on a Saturday afternoon to snap away. Even with a limited camera, I found I was capturing some fantastic action shots, which received an amazing response when posted on social media. The reactions and support spurred me on even more and I was lucky enough to receive a much better camera as a Christmas present. I continued to snap away, resulting in several of my match day photos being used in the Craven Herald. My highlight so far has been taking photographs at the Under 20s Rugby world Cup in Manchester throughout June 2016. Many of the players have commented on my photos! The thrill of knowing a professional sportsperson is a fan of my work is fantastic.

Alongside my photography, I also helped my Dad run 02 Touch Rugby sessions at Skipton RFC; setting up, playing and refereeing these sessions. This lead to local businessman, Scott Millar, who runs RugbyTots in the Craven area, offering me a role on his team. I have been involved with RugbyTots for 18 months now and this has helped to develop my confidence tremendously. I love turning up at these sessions on Saturday and Sunday mornings, seeing the joy and fun the little ones have with a rugby ball in their hands. The smile on their faces when they see me, make their first kick, catch their first ball and score a try is just brilliant. Under Scott’s guidance, I now regularly run several of the sessions.

Through being a part of the Young Rugby Ambassadors Programme I’ve had some amazing experiences; I have been invited to Twickenham three times as a guest of the England RFU to watch England play, and in May 2017 I received my 100 hours certificate and hoody”.
