Wider school community

At Skipton Girls’ High School partnerships with other schools, organisations and businesses are used to broaden and deepen young people’s learning and to enable them to achieve success in wider contexts.

This work is carefully planned by school leaders to enhance the curriculum and develop the perspectives of both learners and staff.

Community and curriculum links are fully embedded and central to the life and work of the school. Please read below to gain a flavour of what our students and staff have experienced and achieved in 2014-2015.

Staff at SGHS take advantage of opportunities for local, national and international community involvement which help them to improve their work with our young people (Connecting Classrooms with schools in India 2015, Christian Aid Kenyan Visitors, Spanish Exchange- Colegio Alameda de Osuna, a mixed school in Madrid, Douai, France -Skipton Exchange, Skipton Camerata events)

They provide innovative approaches to learning and address new challenges (National Junior Cross-country Winners, Big Bang National Finalists, Young Enterprise National Finalists 2014, Craven, N.Yorkshire Regional Finalists 2015,Finalists Ilkley Literature Festival 2014, Radio 2 -500 Words, UK Team Maths Challenge, Northern Great Big dance Off, student representatives invited to the BETT show, Wharefdale Speakers Public Speaking, Solutions to the Planet competition, )

Staff actively seek to link community projects to accreditation and award schemes (Fairtrade School status, CREST Award, Industrial Cadets, Arkwright Scholars, The Dales Rotary Technology Tournament, Duke of Edinburgh,

Community-based activities are used to develop young people’s confidence and creativity, meet individual and group needs and prepare students for their future roles in society (Fundraising for Comic Relief, Rotary Club Nepal Appeal, Shelterbox, Water Aid sponsored walk, Operation Christmas Child, Rolls Royce Outward Bound,

These projects increase young people’s knowledge and understanding of skills for learning, life and work.

Every half term we showcase our local and wider community work in our school Newsletter.
