Subjects currently studying and why did you choose them?
I am currently studying Maths, Physics, Computer Science and Further Maths. I have chosen these subjects because I want to study Engineering or Computer Science at university, but I am currently unsure of which area I would like to study. These subjects will allow me to study either of these subjects at university. These subjects will also give me a broad understanding of STEM.
Why did you apply to Arkwright?
I applied to Arkwright because I want to pursue a career in engineering or computing. I had heard of Arkwright through older students and my teachers. It sounded like a fantastic opportunity to gain more experience in engineering, gain financial aid to help my education and to gain a mentor who would be able to guide me through my sixth form years to help me develop my engineering skills.
What other work experience have you done?
I have already completed numerous work experiences. In summer of year 10 I completed a one week residential STEM camp for girls at RAF Leeming, for which I also received a Silver Industrial Cadet Award and a Silver Crest Award. In year 10 I went on the Euro4Science trip to Bulgaria. In year 11, I completed a one week work experience at Rolls Royce in Barnoldswick, again receiving a Silver Industrial Cadet Award. In the summer of year 11 I completed a one week residential work experience/taster week at BAE systems at the Warton Aerodrome. In year 12, I am currently doing work experience at Sky UK at Leeds dock; this is mainly software development and computer science work experience.
What courses have you attended?
I hope to study either aerospace engineering (with pilot studies possibly), general engineering or computer science.
What are you hoping to study at university?
Through being a scholar, I would like to attend university VIP open days, lectures, talks and work experiences.
