About our Sixth FormWestBank

The Sixth Form at Skipton Girls’ High School offersa unique educational experience which prepares students to achieve highly in both their A Levels and future life, at university or in their intended career. We believe that Post 16 achievement comes from a robust partnership between teachers and students.

Our Post 16 success is built through developing student’s confidence to lead on projects and embrace challenges and opportunities that positively impact on the wider life of the school, local community and life beyond school.

West Bank is the home of our Post 16 Students.

The Edwardian building has been refurbished to provide a modern dedicated Sixth Form Centre. It was designed with student involvement and is situated across the road from the main school, providing both quiet study and social areas over one floor. Students have their own dedicated Café area with the addition of Starbucks Coffee.

Unique Ethos

The Sixth Form at Skipton Girls’ High School offers a unique educational experience which prepares students to achieve highly in both their A Levels and future life at university while participating fully in and contributing to the world around them. We believe that Post 16 achievement comes from a robust partnership between teachers and students.

Our Post 16 success is built through developing student’s confidence to lead on projects and embrace challenges and opportunities that positively impact on the wider life of the school, local community and life beyond school. Our curriculum structure is created to ensure that each student can thrive and benefit from highly personalised and tailored teaching and learning.

Post 16 Students are extremely important members of our Vertical Tutoring System. Form Tutors and other Sixth Form Student Progress staff work closely with students throughout their time in the Sixth Form and offer continuous advice, support and guidance to support each individual’s journey through their Post 16 studies. Students lead our House Incentives System, run and manage extra-curricular clubs and activities, and all Year 12 girls fully participate in mentoring and support programmes for our younger girls including a wide range of roles and responsibilities - STEM and Engineering Ambassadors, Subject Ambassadors, Digital Leaders to name a few.

Teachers are joined by a highly skilled Careers Advisor, School Counsellor and Associate support staff in providing outstanding support to students in every aspect of their Post 16 education.

Safeguarding

It is a safeguarding requirement for all Sixth Form students to visibly wear their student ID lanyard. This is essential as Sixth Form students do not wear a school uniform and need to be recognisable to main school students and staff. All students will be issued with their own student ID lanyard at the start of the year and will be responsible for its safe keeping. Replacement ID will incur a charge of £5.00.
